The relaxed town of Byron Bay

May 24, 25, 26

One of the hottest days so far (25C) so do not want to spend much of it in the car. With under 2 hours to Byron Bay we plan to be there by 12:30. Steady construction will make this time frame slower.

The fog and dew were so heavy this morning that it took awhile for the tents to dry.

The fields of sugar can that line the highways make this appear as a green tropical location.

What an entrance into Byron Bay. A small, windy, narrow country road, hills lined with farms. Very rural for such a famous beach. The small town rural feel is true for this town. Although it is clearly based on tourism, it has a friendly, small town feel.
The sand feels like flour.

The waves were perfect for Luke to practice surfing. He logged many hours over the 3 days. The rest of us on boogies boards.

The hike to the lighthouse had these lucky surfers up nice and close to the dolphins.

Nate requested we try kangaroo. The roo kabobs cooked on the barbie were well received.

Our campground has the monopoly in that it is the only property in town directly on the beach. Although we are paying $92/night to pitch a tent on gravel, the location, mix of people and facilities make up for the price tag. The lookout from the gazebo is beautiful.

Homework did happen in this gazebo but not when game 7 of the Eastern conference went into double overtime.

Nate is very close to completing his collection. He has been sharing his extras with the kids in the campground. Woolies campaign has been a hit across the continent.
This guy was hard to spot. Almost walked right by.
A warm night in town on the water listening to local musicians.
I can see why backpackers have extended stays here.
