Burleigh Heads. Last stop before Brisbane. A suburb 20 minutes out of Surfer's Paradise, the campground is across the street from the ocean. Goodbye small town Byron Bay and hello city!
A man came up to us in the campground and said "complete strangers said to me The Canadians are here!"
We had met Ian in Woolgoolga and he and other travellers were taking the same path up the east coast. We all end up in the same campgrounds. Our kids are told frequently by other travellers how lucky they are to have this experience. Our story of traveling around the world had spread to the caravan parks.
Levi has chosen to live out of the car instead of sleeping in a tent. The car got to be such a disaster in Byron Bay we did not drive it for 3 days. I told him he needed to hire a cleaning service for his bachelor pad.
Nate lost his 5th tooth of the trip today. One in Europe, 2 in Africa, 2 in Australia. (We all love his t-shirt).
Homework happens while making supper.
We drove to Surfer's on Sunday. Needed to buy rail passes for Japan and not sure where else we would do this. A busy city and a busy beach.
Another day we ventured out to Snappers Rock. Beautiful spot to watch the surfers do their thing and admire the yucca trees.
Last day with the boogie boards. Nate had a hard time saying goodbye even though they were both busted and cracked in many places. Lots of fun on Styrofoam!
The roots of the gum trees still amaze us. These were on the hiking trail outside our campground.
The brush turkey. At first I thought it was great to have this wildlife around the tents. That quickly came to an end. They are a complete nuisance. The government protects them so the campground signs are worded "We are forced to live in harmony with the brush turkey. Please keep food locked away."
Nate completed his marvel disc collection today. His most prized possession. Now to carry it through Asia!
Hanging out at night.
