With Luke and I finished our run, the rain coming down, and nothing but grey cloudy skies, we felt it was not worth hiking the trails along the bay at Witsand. Tonight we had a destination - Stellenbosh.
We drove through Swellendam, as we had over a month earlier.
The approach into Swellendam.
This town has strong Dutch influence, but I remember it feeling quite African on our way through a month ago. After what we have seen it does not look that African to me anymore. Perceptions change.
The trip to Stellenbosh would have us cross over to the other side of the mountain. The skies were still grey and the weather on the cool side. Passing over the mountain changed everything! Bright, sunny skies and the temperature in the 30s. Yes!
Stellenbosh is high end cosmopolitan. We arrived in town and found a campground. Beautiful trees, and interesting neighbors.
Easier to ride down to the campsite than trying to get them back to the office.
Setting up camp and drying out clothes that were soaked in Witsand.
Mark, whose camper is in the background, is South African, but spent the last 20 years in Israel. A wealth of knowledge on both countries.
Enjoying some last sips of Iron Brew.
The night was uncomfortable to say the least. We had bought expensive air mattresses before leaving Canada. They lasted about a week. By now, they have so many leaks in the seams that there is nothing but plastic between my spine and the hard ground. Around midnight I opted to "sleep" in the van. Jack did not have a great night either. Sometimes morning takes forever to come.
