Kirstenbosh

Sunday April 9, 2017

Took advantage of our last days in Cape Town to use the promenade along the Atlantic Ocean for runs. I cannot get over how fit Capetonians are! Personal trainers have groups out on weekends and evenings to use the outdoor gyms, runners and walkers of all ages. Hardly anyone is overweight. I have had locals mention to me how fit they as Cape Town citizens are.

I thought there was a run happening early in the morning for kids so I rushed back to the apartment to get Nate who complained he did not want to race, but the competitive nature in him would not let him back out. As it turned out, it was a family walk along the promenade and not a race so he was disappointed and annoyed I had him out of his pjs so early in the morning.

Chris and Michele who we had met in Plett at the beginning of our road trip had invited us for lunch at their house on this day. They live in Kirstenbosh and we were looking forward to the visit and seeing that part of the city. A great couple! We sat down in the patio at noon and could not believe that four hours had passed so quickly. People who open their houses to travelers who they meet along the road are wonderful. A lesson to keep in mind. What a delicious lunch! Roasted chicken and potatoes, pumpkin bread, and what had the boys all but licking the bowl was the bar one sauce on ice cream.

Before heading back to Sea Point we went to the botanical gardens. These gardens are located at the bottom of Table Mountain and are credited with being one of the greatest in the world. The setting is beautiful with the intent to conserve the flora of South Africa.
