Beuatiful Wine Country

April 8, 2017

With the temperature sunny and hot, we packed up the tents, ate the standby breakfast of peanut butter sandwiches and set off to explore the vineyards of Stellenbosh. The manger of the campground had a daughter living in Canada so she was quite eager to help us map a route to visit a few vineyards that would appeal to all of us. The number of vineyards is staggering; the scenery of rolling hills and lush green - amazing!

Spier was out first stop.

Beautiful, expansive grounds.

Nancy and I had to taste the wines. When in Rome ....

While we were tasting, the boys found their way to a bird rescue sanctuary. Raptor rescues and rehabilitation.

From Spier, we went to one of the oldest vineyards in South Africa, Muratie, still run in part as it did when it first started in 1685. Located on the edge of the Stellenbosh, it is nestled in the hills, with tasting in the original cement cellar.

Enough of vineyards for the boys. They were anxious to get going to Cape Town. It felt like we were going home. I guess familiar can feel like home. Ciska was not going to be at the apartment as she was off on a five day hike, but we were all glad to see our same digs.

Nancy's last night before going home. She took us out for supper at the V& A. Beautiful evening to eat by the ocean.

The days busy!
